Beavers Slip Past Monks, 1-0

FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine-Farmington (1-1-0) edged Saint Joseph's College (1-4-0), 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match on Wednesday afternoon.

The Beavers broke a span of over 58 scoreless minutes when senior forward Ava Amador (Farmington, Maine) potted the game's lone marker off a Katie Clark (Westbrook, Maine) pass at the 58:38 mark.

The Monks posted a trio of scoring opportunities in the final 90 seconds of the contest, as Danielle Daigle (Dayton, Maine), Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) and Hannah LeBlanc (Andover, Mass.) all sent shots just wide of the intended target.

Saint Joseph's featured three keepers in the loss with freshman Brooke Troupe (East Bridgewater, Mass.) getting the start with one save in the first half. Sophomore Amelia Tooker (Westfield, Mass.) opened the second stanza and allowed the Beavers' goal over 17:33 in net and second-year Marina Cameron (Houlton, Maine) went untested in 27:27 between the pipes.

University of Maine-Farmington junior netminder Sam Hatch (Hebron, Maine) earned the first victory – and shutout - of her NCAA career after making five saves on the afternoon.

Overall, Saint Joseph's held an 11-8 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks in the losing effort. The Monks fall to 28-14-4 in the history of the series with Maine-Farmington, a side they defeated by a 2-0 margin in Standish last fall.

Saint Joseph's kicks off a five-game home stand Saturday (12:00 PM) against Mount Ida College in what will be the Monks' 2014 conference opener. Maine-Farmington plays at Emerson College on Saturday (1:00 PM).
