BANGOR, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College (1-1-0) women's soccer team edged Newbury College (0-2), 2-1 in double-overtime, in the Husson University Invitational Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Senior Whitney White (Salem, N.H.) netted the game winner, an unassisted marker, in the 104th minute to provide the Monks with their first victory of the 2015 campaign.

Despite holding a 17-2 shots advantage in the opening half, the Monks faced a 1-0 deficit heading into intermission as sophomore Shannon Walsh (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored, in the 37th minute, on what was the Nighthawks' second shot of the game. Junior Nicole Kaufman (Miami, Fla.) was credited with an assist on the play.

St. Joe's continued to pour on the offensive pressure in the second half and owned a 22-2 lead in shots in the latter half. The efforts finally paid off at the 66:30 mark when junior Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) netted her first goal of the year to knot the match at 1-1.

The Monks had multiple scoring chances throughout the remainder of regulation – including an opportunity by sophomore Shaina Speight (Biddeford, Maine) with 48 seconds left – but failed to capitalize.

Overall, Saint Joseph's held a daunting 50-5 shots advantage with 24 shots on goal against Newbury. Nighthawks senior keeper Elizabeth Fox (Orono, Maine) made 22 stops in the loss while SJC netminders Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) made a pair of stops in the winning effort.
