Huskies Tip Monks, 1-0

STANDISH, Maine – University of Southern Maine (3-3-0, 0-1-0 LEC) edged Saint Joseph's College (3-5-0, 1-1-0 GNAC), 1-0, in a non-conference women's soccer contest at Westerlea Way Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskies produced the only offense of the game in the sixth minute, when junior Analies Ross-Dyjak (Orono, Maine) collected a through pass in the box and beat Monks sophomore keeper Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.), who left her post to challenge, with a shot to the bottom right corner. Freshman Sarah Michaud (Candia, N.H.) was credited with an assist on the play.

The Monks had several chances to tie the match, including a pair of opportunities by freshman forward Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) in the final five minutes of play, but ultimately were unable to solve USM goalkeeper Marissa Temple (Grafton, Mass.), who made six saves to record her third shutout of the season.

Saint Joseph's split the game in goal, as Troup posted a pair of stops in the first half and senior Michelle Cunha (Enfield, Conn.) made two saves in the second stanza.

St. Joe's held advantages in both shots (13-8) and corner kicks (6-2) in the losing effort.

With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 10-16-1 in the history of the series with Southern Maine.

Saint Joseph's returns to conference action this Saturday with a 3:00 PM home game versus University of Saint Joseph. Southern Maine hosts conference-rival UMass.-Boston at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
