STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (2-2) defeated Thomas College (0-3), 3-1, in non-conference women's soccer action at Westerlea Way Field on Wednesday afternoon.
THE LEAD
Saint Joseph's possessed the ball for the lion's share of the contest and held a considerable 34-3 advantage in shots with a 14-0 lead in corner kicks in the victory. Sophomore Emily Thornton (Westbrook, Maine) set up the first goal of the contest, a Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) tally in the 14th minute, and doubled the Monks' cushion when she netted the second goal of her collegiate career at the 28:22 mark. Junior Sarah Comtois (Lowell, Mass.) closed out the SJC ledger with her team-leading third goal of the season, off an Emily Moreau (Litchfield, N.H.) feed, in the 52nd minute.
Freshman Kayla Bess (Madison, Maine) put the Terriers on the board with her first collegiate marker in the 58th minute.
THE KEEPERS
For Saint Joseph's, junior Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) allowed a goal and made a pair of saves in 71 minutes while freshman Cori Balam (Lyndeborough, N.H.) was untested in 19 minutes of relief. Thomas senior Paige Leary (Palermo, Maine) faced 10 shots and registered 10 stops over 90 minutes in goal.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 36-6 in the history of the series with Thomas College and has now defeated the Terriers in 20-consecutive meetings dating back to the 1998 campaign.
