Monks Skate Past Raiders, 6-2

NASHUA, N.H. – Saint Joseph's College (3-3-1, 1-0-1 GNAC) toppled Rivier University (1-3-1, 0-2-0 GNAC), 6-2, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

Two players were at the center of the Monks' scoring barrage, as sophomore Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) netted a hat trick and added an assist while junior Sarah Comtois (Lowell, Mass.) tallied two goals and an assist in the lopsided contest.

DaGraca kicked off the scoring when she threaded a thru ball past the defensive line that allowed Comtois to find the back of the net just 4:29 into the contest. DaGraca proceeded to tack on two goals, the first at 10:51 from classmate Colleen Sheehan (Medway, Mass.), and the latter an unassisted tally at 19:47 to provide the visitors with a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.

Saint Joseph's proceeded to add three more goals, including DaGraca's third, before the Raiders were able to find the twine. Following a foul inside the 18, Rivier was granted a penalty kick opportunity in which senior Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to convert – on a low line drive into the lower left corner. Classmate Maggie Cohoon (Derry, N.H.) added an unassisted goal at 84:16 to account for all of the scoring.

Rivier goalkeeper Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) made six saves on the night for Rivier. Saint Joseph's went with a dual effort between the pipes as Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was successful on all five shots over 60 minutes of action and freshman Cori Balam (Lyndeborough, N.H.) made three saves on five attempts in her 30 minutes.

Saint Joseph's is back in action tomorrow when the Monks travel to Henniker, New Hampshire for a 2:00 PM non-conference match versus New England College.
