Monks Top Raiders in OT, 1-0

Overtime goal sinks Raiders against Saint Joseph's (Me.)

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Soccer team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest in heartbreaking fashion this afternoon to visiting Saint Joseph's College (Me.), 1-0 in overtime at Raider Field. The loss sends the Raiders' overall record to 1-3 and 0-2 in the GNAC while the Monks improve to 5-0 and 3-0 against conference opponents.

Saint Joseph's senior Colleen Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) netted the game winner in the 92nd minute as she collected a loose ball at the top of the 18 and was able to lift over the outstretched arms of Rivier junior goalkeeper Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.).

The Raider defense held off a strong Saint Joseph's (Me.) attack throughout the contest as the Monks were able to outshoot Rivier by a 20-1 margin. Smith made 11 saves on the afternoon while her counterpart freshman Adia Grogran (Kennebunk, Maine) stopped the only the shot she faced on net.

This marks the seventh consecutive victory for Saint Joseph's (Me.) over Rivier. The last time that Rivier took a game from the Monks was a 2-1 decision back on October 8, 2011.

Rivier will look to rebound on Thursday night as they travel to Boston, Massachusetts for a date with Emmanuel College. Game time is scheduled for 7pm at Roberto Clemente Field in the Fens. Saint Joseph's will have a quick turnaround as they travel to the University of Southern Maine tomorrow afternoon for a 1pm kickoff.
