GORHAM, Maine – Senior Olivia Mull (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) and freshman Alexandria Allain (Carmel, Maine/Hermon) each scored a goal as the University of Southern Maine Huskies earned their eighth win by shutout this season defeating the Saint Joseph's College Monks 2-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday night at Hannaford Field.

With the win, Southern Maine ties the program record for wins in a season with 12, improving to 12-4-1.  The Huskies' 2000 team finished with 12 wins in a 12-8-0 season.  The loss snaps a six-game win streak for the Monks who are now 13-3 overall. 

Controlling the play in the opening minutes of the game, Mull put the Huskies up early scoring her third goal of the season in the sixth minute.   Mull hit a one-time volley to the far post off of a service from junior Ciera Berthiaume (Windham, Maine) for the 1-0 lead, which the Huskies carried through the half.

Saint Joseph's pressed in the second half and had several quality attempts in the first 20 minutes of the second frame.  Freshman Emma Auclair (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) and senior Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) each had near goals cleared off the line in the 64th and 65th minute.  The Huskies' back line played another strong game led by outstanding play from senior Sarah Michaud (Candia, N.H./Manchester Central), juniors Emily Baker (Brunswick, Maine)  and Emily Bragg (Gorham, Maine) and sophomore Elise Porter (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). 

With the Monks searching for the equalizer, Allain and senior Emma Dennison (South Portland, Maine) gave the Huskies an insurance goal in the 71st minute with solid passing down the near side of the field.  After connecting on a pair of passes along the sideline, Dennison fed Allain a through ball into the left side of the box, and Allain finished to the far post for her seventh goal of the season. 

Trailing 2-0, DaGraca had three more quality looks on frame for the Monks, including a shot off the post in the 88th minute, but Southern Maine senior goalkeeper Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass.) made eight saves, including five in the second half to earn the win. SJC freshman Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made seven saves in the loss

Southern Maine is on the road for its final regular season contest of 2018 and travels to Castleton University on Saturday (4:30 p.m.).    Saint Joseph's begins the GNAC tournament on Saturday (12:00 pm) hosting Simmons.
