STANDISH, Maine – Freshman Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine) scored in the 104th minute to lift Saint Joseph's College (9-2-1, 5-1-0 GNAC) past Norwich University (3-8-1, 2-4-1 GNAC), 2-1 in double-overtime, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer contest at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
With the second OT frame just underway, senior midfielder Jade Jordan (Baldwin, Maine) won the ball in the middle of the field, carried it forward, and dealt a through ball to Michaud, who faced Norwich keeper Lindsey Gordon (Wiscasset, Maine) on a 1v1 and beat the sophomore goalie with a shot to the near side.
The Cadets found the scoreboard first, as sophomore forward Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) took advantage of a defensive lapse to net her seventh goal of the season at the 19:08 mark.
The 1-0 edge remained until the 80th minute when sophomore Ashley Emery (Madison, Maine) hit pay dirt off a Michaud pass for her sixth strike of the 2019 campaign.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held a 26-7 lead in shots – including an 8-2 advantage in 13-plus overtime minutes – as well as the edge in shots on goal (14-5) and corner kicks (8-1) on the evening.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) turned away four of the five shots she faced in the victory while Gordon posted 12 saves in what was the first collegiate start of her career.
