STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (11-2-2, 8-1-1 GNAC) blanked Suffolk University (9-5-0, 7-4-0 GNAC), 3-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at the SJC Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks maintained steady pressure for most of the game and struck early when junior Madeline Wood (Madison, Maine) netted her fourth goal of the year off a McKenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) pass in the seventh minute.
Murphy made it a 2-0 game in the 32nd minute when she scored her team-leading eighth tally on a feed from freshman Madison Michaud (Presque Isle, Maine).
Sophomore Ashley Emery (Madison, Maine) closed out the scoring ledger at the 48:53 mark when she tied Murphy for the team lead with her eighth strike of the season. Sophomore Kayley Mattos (Mahopac, N.Y.) was credited with an assist on the play.
TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's posted sizeable leads in shots (25-3), shots on goal (18-1), and corner kicks (7-2) in the conference victory.
THE KEEPERS:
SJC sophomore Adia Grogan (Kennebunk, Maine) made one save in 81 minutes and 10 seconds to claim her 11th win of the season while senior Cori Balam (Lyndeborough, N.H.) did not face a shot in nearly nine minutes of mop-up duty.
Suffolk sophomore Allison Rodrigues (North Andover, Mass.) made a career-high 15 saves in the losing effort.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory Saint Joseph's improves to 11-1-2 all-time versus Suffolk University and has now defeated the Rams in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2015 season. The Monks' only loss at the hands of the Rams was a 6-2 setback in Boston on September 22nd, 2010.
