Monks Claim #2 Seed in 2019 GNAC Tournament

WINTHROP, Mass. – While the top-four seeds Johnson & Wales University (RI), Saint Joseph's College of Maine, Emmanuel College and Suffolk University get set to host 2019 GNAC Women's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal contests on Saturday, November 2, it was a five-way sixth-place tie that stole the headlines on Wednesday evening as the regular season came to a close.

In Wednesday's finale, an Albertus Magnus College 2-0 victory over University of Saint Joseph (CT) catapulted the Falcons to a 5-6-1 GNAC mark and ultimately the No. 6 seed in the tournament, while the setback dropped USJ to 5-6-1 as well.

Meanwhile, Regis College earned a crucial 0-0 draw on the road against third-seeded Emmanuel in Wednesday's finale, which improved the Pride to 5-6-1 in GNAC play.

A Colby-Sawyer College 1-1 tie against Simmons University on Wednesday also dropped CSC to 5-6-1, while Norwich University had already concluded its regular-season schedule at 5-6-1 in league play last weekend.

After Albertus emerged via tiebreakers as the No. 6 seed, USJ (CT) nailed down the No. 7 seed due to its regular-season head-to-head 0-0 draw at Saint Joe's (Maine) back on October 12. Without that tie, the Blue Jays would have missed the playoffs.

USJ will now travel again to Saint Joe's (Maine) on Saturday (12 PM)  in the quarterfinals, while Albertus ships up north to Boston to face Emmanuel (time TBD).

Following further tiebreaks, Regis latched onto the No. 8 seed after traveling to Boston against Emmanuel, as the Pride needed at least a tie against the Saints to qualify. Regis will travel to top-seeded JWU on Saturday for a 4:00 PM start.

The remaining quarterfinal will feature fourth-seeded Suffolk University hosting longtime GNAC women's soccer powerhouse and fifth-seeded Lasell University at noon.

While Lasell (8-4 GNAC) finished up the regular-season campaign with an impressive 2-1 home win over Saint Joe's (Maine) on Wednesday, the Lasers had not dropped more than two league contests in a season in more than a decade. Suffolk (8-4 GNAC) earned the tiebreaker and right to host on Saturday due to its 1-0 win over Lasell back on Oct. 9.

The GNAC Semifinals are set for Tuesday, Nov. 5, followed by the highest remaining seed hosting the GNAC Championship match on Saturday, Nov. 9.
