WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Saint Joseph's College (6-6-5, 6-4-5 GNAC) and University of Saint Joseph (8-6-3, 8-4-3 GNAC) played to a 1-1 draw in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon.
PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS:
With the result Saint Joseph's claims the #8 seed in the GNAC Tournament and will host #9 Elms College in a conference play-in game on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
University of Saint Joseph has earned the #6 seed in the tourney and will play at #3 Lasell University on Saturday in a GNAC Quarterfinal scheduled to start at 1:30 PM.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Blue Jays struck early when Christina Quitoni (Patchogue, N.Y.) netted a header goal off a Jelly Frigo (Hartford, Conn.) pass just 4:05 after the opening whistle.
The 1-0 score remained until the 38th minute when senior Aaliyah WilsonFalcone (Winthrop, Maine) collected the rebound off a Tatum Hancock (Damariscotta, Maine) shot and potted her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
Both teams had chances to break the deadlock in the second stanza, but the evenly matched teams were unable to deliver the deciding tally.
TEAM STATS:
USJ held the lead in shots (11-10) and corner kicks (4-2) while SJC posted a 7-5 edge in shots on goal on the afternoon.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the stalemate the Monks are now 9-4-6 in the history of the series with University of Saint Joseph. The Monks have recorded more ties with the Blue Jays than any other side in program history.
