Monks Top Fighting Scots, 127-101

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's wrapped up the 2010-11 regular-season docket with a 127-101 win over Gordon College at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon. Hannah Gajewski '12 (Biddeford, ME/McAuley) helped lead the Royal Blue to victory with a trio of top finishes, including a record-breaking effort in the 400-IM (5:08.34) event.

Gajewski also won the 100-Breast (1:17.88) and 50-Fly (30.54) competitions while teammates Annie Roberts '12 (Hopkinton, NH) and Rose Maccarrone '12 (Hingham, MA) also notched two first-place efforts apiece on the day.

Roberts paced the field in the 50-Back (34.00) and 100-Back (1:13.97) and Maccarrone won the 50-Breast (36.68) and 100-IM (1:10.45) competitions.

Christine Cote '13 (Biddeford, ME) also enjoyed a solid performance with a top finish in the 50-Free (28.47) and runner-up efforts in the 100-Free (1:02.27) and 200-Free (2:21.21).

Jamie Wojtkiewicz '12 (Bedford, NH) placed second in three events, the 400-IM (5:23.40), 100-Fly (1:12.48) and 100-IM (1:11.71), in the SJC triumph.

With a 2:15.79 time, the 200-Medley relay team, featuring Roberts, Maccarrone, Cote, and Meghan Lyons '11 (Danvers, MA), rounded out the Monks' top finishes on the day.

Lyons, the team's lone senior and program's first four-year varsity team member, was recognized for her achievements with a ceremony prior to the start of the event.

The women will cap the 2010-11 campaign with a trip to the NCAA DIII New England Regional meet, which takes place February 18-20.
