SOUTH KINGSTON, R.I. – The Saint Joseph's College men's and women's swim teams participated in the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at University of Rhode Island on Friday and Saturday. Typically a three-day event, the action was cut short as Sunday's race docket was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Saint Joseph's men finished the truncated championship in 10th place for the second-consecutive season with 111 team points while the women posted the best NEISDA finish in the team's eight-year history by placing 15th with 135 points.

Keene State College won both championships for the second-consecutive season, as the Owls' men won their fifth title in the last seven years with 720 points and the KSC women claimed their fifth crown in the last eight seasons with 1146.5 points. Roger Williams University finished as the runner-up in both of the standings, with 998.5 points on the women's side and 444 on the men's.

The cancellation of the final day of regional competition brings an abrupt ending to the collegiate careers of the Monks' three seniors – Preston Bowden (Biddeford, Maine), Adam Gaulin (Belfast, Maine) and Kelly Carter (Dedham, Mass.). All three played pivotal roles in the development of the Saint Joseph's Swimming program and will be missed as the teams continue to make strides in the coming seasons. 

DAY ONE – WOMEN:

• Junior Anne Fougere (Warner, N.H.) placed 15th in the 50-Breast finals with a 34.27 time
• Junior Brooke Huberdeau (North Andover, Mass.) placed 22nd with a 5:46.93 effort in the 500-Free prelims
• Sophomore Lauren Halvorsen (South Portland, Maine) finished 28th in the 500-Free (5:57.28) prelims
• Sophomore Lauren Prue (Glenburn, Maine) was 20th in the 200-IM (2:34.39) preliminary and 27th in the 50-Breast (36.30) prelims
• Junior Alexandra Krasco (Melrose, Mass.) placed 23rd in the 200-Back prelims with a 2:29.17 performance and also finished 18th in the 200-IM (2:33.88) prelim
• Halvorsen, Prue, Huberdeau and sophomore Erin Weir (North Andover, Mass.) combined to post a 1:54.20 time in the 200-Free relay and finished 16th in the event
• Sophomore Danielle Charette (Westfield, Mass.), Fougere, Krasco and Huberdeau posted a collective 4:36.99 time and finished 16th in the 400-Medley relay

DAY TWO – WOMEN:

• Charette, Fougere, Krasco and Weir worked together to record a 2:06.80 time and placed 17th in the 200-Medley relay preliminary
• Charette finished 31st in both the 50-Fly (30.74) and 100-Fly (1:10.00) prelims
• Huberdeau was 22nd in the 200-Free (2:11.04) prelim
• Fougere placed 23rd in the 100-Breast (1:16.23) preliminary race
• Prue was 29th in the 100-Breast (1:18.39) prelim
• Charette, Fougere, Halvorsen and Huberdeau combined to register a 10th place effort with an 8:49.82 time in the 800-Free relay

DAY ONE – MEN:

• Junior Alexander Gilvey (Windham, Maine) finished seventh in the 200-Back finals with a 2:04.68 performance
• Sophomore Ben Johnson (Belmont, Mass.) placed 12th in the 100-Fly finals with a 56.12 time and broke his own team record with a 55.21 effort in the prelims
• Bowden was 14th in the 200-Back (2:12.08) finals
• Junior Andrew Merlino (Natick, Mass.) placed 15th in the 200-Back (2:13.84) finals
• Gaulin finished 15th in the 200-IM (2:15.04) finals
• Johnson, sophomore Dakota Dupuis (Dedham, Maine), Merlino and Bowden combined to post a 1:34.87 time in the 200-Free relay prelim

DAY TWO – MEN:

• Gilvey, Gaulin, Merlino and Bowden posted a 1:46.02 time in the 200-Medley relay and finished eighth in the event
• Johnson placed 12th with a 25.57 time in the 50-Fly finals
• Merlino finished 15th in the 50-Fly (25.80) finals
• Dupuis was 26th with a 28.67 effort in the 50-Fly preliminary race
• Gilvey was 11th in the 100-Back finals with a 57.70 performance
• Bowden finished 15th in the 100-Back (1:00.30) finals
• Gaulin placed 18th in the 100-Breast (1:07.14) prelim
• Gaulin, Merlino, Johnson and Gilvey swam the 800-Free relay and placed ninth with a 7:53.07 effort
