NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Saint Joseph's College swim teams opened the 2019-20 season on Friday evening with a head-to-head meet at Colby-Sawyer College. The men fell by a narrow 79-74 margin while the women fell to the Chargers by a 187-58 score.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Freshman Delaney Young (Woolwich, Maine) placed second in the 1000-Free (13:58.01)
- Senior Emily Roy (Sidney, Maine) finished second in the 50-Back (34.06)
- Senior Autumn Nostrom (Lyman, Maine) was second in the 50-Breast (38.73) and 100-Breast (1:23.69)
- First-year Madison Mills (Atkinson, N.H.) placed second in the 50-Free (28.59)
- Senior Alexis Coiley (Fort Fairfield, Maine) finished second in the 500-Free (6:25.39)
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Sophomore Ryan Watson (Bangor, Maine) won the 1000-Free (12:08.51)
- Freshman Joseph Spurling (Natick, Mass.) placed first in the 50-Back (31:34) and 100-IM (1:13.08) events and second in the 50-Free (28.89)
- Freshman Evan Whaley (Merrimack, N.H.) won the 500-Free (5:28.61) and was second in the 100-Fly (1:01.55)
- Sophomore Joseph Nichols (Tyngsborough, Mass.) finished second in the 100-Back (1:14.27) and 50-Fly (32.71)
- The 200-Free relay quartet of Whaley, Watson, Nichols, and Spurling placed second with a 1:50.30 time
