BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College wrapped up the second day of the 2020 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Boston Sports Institute on the campus of Wellesley College on Saturday evening. Through 26 events, the St. Joe's men are in sixth place with 58 points while the Monks' women sit in ninth place with 151 points.
Two men's team records have fallen, as sophomore Ryan Watson (Bangor, Maine) broke the Monks 1650-Free mark with an 18:14.17 time, good for third overall, and freshman Evan Whaley (Merrimack, N.H.) topped the SJC 500-Free record with a 5:03.03 time in the preliminary session.
Heading into the final day, Simmons University sits in first place with 700 points, comfortably ahead of Norwich University, which sits in second with 385 points. Husson University (381), Regis College (373), Colby-Sawyer College (365), University of Saint Joseph (289), Elms College (238), Albertus Magnus College (176), and Saint Joseph's (151) round out the nine-team field.
On the men's side, Norwich holds the lead with 271 points while Husson is second (121), Regis sits in third (119), University of Saint Joseph is fourth (106), and Elms holds fifth (59). Saint Joseph's (58) and Colby-Sawyer (20) round out the seven-team group.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- Sophomore Alirose Beauregard (Dover, N.H.) placed seventh in the 200-IM (2:26.67)
- Senior Alexis Coiley (Fort Fairfield, Maine) was eighth in the 200-IM (2:31.37) and 13th in the 100-Free (1:00.19)
- Senior Emily Roy (Sidney, Maine) finished eighth in the 200-Back (2:23.71)
- Freshman Delaney Young placed 12th in the 200-IM (2:35.30)
- Sophomore Hannah Kibbin (Augusta, Maine) was 12th in the 100-Breast (1:22.16)
- Freshman Madison Mills (Woolwich, Maine) placed 12th in the 100-Free (59.49)
- Sophomore Abby Lenko finished 16th in the 200-IM (3:14.76) and 200-Back (3:06.56) events
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- Watson finished third in the 1650-Free (18:14.17, team record) and seventh in the 500-Free (5:19.39)
- Whaley broke the team's 500-Free record with a 5:03.03 prelim time and placed sixth in both the 500-Free (5:10.23) and 100-Fly (57.00) finals
- Sophomore Joseph Nichols (Tyngsborough, Mass.) was sixth in the 200-Back (2:30.15) and 10th in the 50-Back (31.28)
- The Monks' 200-Free (1:41.88), 200-Medley (1:59.30), and 400-Medley (4:22.44) teams – comprised of the aforementioned three swimmers along with junior Anthony Blatus (Dracut, Mass.) – all finished sixth
