Monks Sweep Lynx, 3-0

STANDISH, ME – Saint Joseph's (7-2) defeated Lesley University (1-5), 3-1, in a non-conference volleyball match at the Harold Alfond Center Tuesday evening. Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) registered 22 assists and eight digs in the Monks' fifth consecutive victory.

The Monks dealt the Lynx 25-16, 25-15 and 25-17 losses in the three-set sweep and posted a solid .259 attack percentage with nine errors and 31 kills in the triumph. Lesley countered with 25 errors and 25 kills with a corresponding .000 attack percentage.

Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, ME) recorded 10 digs, eight kills and three total blocks, while Devon Masse '14 (Hudson, NH) had seven kills in the Royal Blue sweep. Sarah Coffey '14 (Hanover, MA) issued five kills with six digs and Meaghan Harney '14 (Hollis, NH) chipped in with nine digs for the victors.

For the Lynx, Kailin Miller (Leesport, PA) notched 18 assists with eight digs and Megan Ortwein (Easter, PA) contributed with 13 digs and five kills in the losing effort. Amanda McCracken (Marriottiville, MD) posted a team-high seven kills while teammate Kaitlin Wechsler (Mernick, NY) added six kills for the visitors.

The 2010 Monks are off to the best start since the 1995 team began the year with the same 7-2 record through nine games. The 1995 club posted a 27-10 record, with the victory total and winning percentage (.730) being the best single-season marks in program history.

Saint Joseph's will host University of New England on Thursday at 7:00 PM, while Lesley will travel to Simmons College on Friday for a 7:00 PM match.
