Fighting Scots Top Monks, 3-0

STANDISH, ME – Gordon College (13-14, 1-6 CCC) defeated Saint Joseph's (17-10, 7-5 GNAC), 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22), in a non-conference volleyball match at the Harold Alfond Center on Tuesday night. Jordan Pelczar '12 (Meredith, N.H.) recorded a team-high 23 digs in a losing effort.

For the Monks, Sarah Hawkes '13 (Pownal, Maine) had four kills, 13 digs and two solo blocks, Brooke Dyer '14 (Lebanon, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) added four kills and eight digs, and Kiah Begley '13 (Berwick, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) registered 14 assists and 10 digs.

For the Fighting Scots, Claudia Amado '12 (Glastonbury, Conn.) posted 12 kills and 14 digs, Lauren Kranyak '14 (Locust Grove, Va.) notched eight kills, seven digs and three aces, and Andrea Amado '12 (Glastonbury, Conn.) contributed 28 assists and seven digs.

Pelczar, the program's lone senior, was honored with a brief ceremony prior to the start of the match. Currently, she is in a three-way tie atop the Monks' all-time matches played (112) list and ranks fifth in team history in sets played (351). Pelczar has tallied 292 kills, 140 service aces and 736 digs in her career thus far.

The Monks posted a season-low -.097 hitting percentage with 15 kills and 26 errors in 113 attacks in the setback. St. Joe's has now lost to Gordon in seven consecutive meetings dating back to the 1997 campaign.

Saint Joseph's will travel to University of Southern Maine on Thursday for a 7:00 PM match, while Gordon hosts Western New England in a conference contest on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
