Wachowiak Earns ECAC New England Player of the Week Acclaim

STANDISH, Maine – The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) weekly awards have been announced and Saint Joseph's College junior Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) has been selected as the New England DIII Volleyball Player of the Week.

Wachowiak, who also collected GNAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for her play in three matches, averaged 4.17 kills, 1.83 digs and 1.33 blocks per set in a 2-1 week for Saint Joseph's and enjoyed a career day with 41 kills and 12 block solos combined in a GNAC tri-match split with Lasell and Anna Maria last Saturday.

The junior opened the day with 17 kills and a program-record 10 block solos in a five-set loss at the hands of the Lasers before leading the Monks to a 3-1 triumph over Anna Maria with 24 kills in 39 attempts for a .564 attack percentage.

Her kill total versus the AMCATS tied a program four- match record, which was originally set 12 years ago. With 332 total blocks (210 solo), Wachowiak already owns every major blocking record – career, season and match – in just three seasons.

Through 29 matches and 108 sets so far this fall, the three-year starter has accumulated 290 kills, 42 service aces, 105 digs, 132 total blocks (99 solo) and 447.5 points. She leads the conference in total blocks, block solos, blocks per set (1.22) and points and ranks second in the league in kills and points per set (4.1).

For Wachowiak, the ECAC weekly award is the second of her career as she also earned the honor on September 30th, 2013. A 2013 First Team All-GNAC selection, Wachowiak has also claimed 10 GNAC weekly accolades during her career.

She is the only player in program history to claim an ECAC weekly honor and the second SJC athlete this fall to receive an ECAC award, as field hockey standout Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine/Cheverus) was tabbed as the New England DIII Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week on October 1st.

Saint Joseph's will complete the 2014 schedule with a non-conference tri-match at Southern Maine with matches versus UMass.-Dartmouth (2:00 PM) and the host Huskies (4:00 PM) this Saturday.
