Monks Drop Two in Season-Ending Tri-Match

GORHAM, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (9-22, 3-8 GNAC) closed out the 2014 campaign with a pair of non-conference losses at University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon. The Monks opened with a 3-2 loss at the hands of Mass.-Dartmouth (11-18, 0-7 LEC) and capped the day with a 3-1 loss to the Huskies (18-13, 1-7 LEC).

Saint Joseph's was led by the junior duo of Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) and Felicia Wachowiak (Milton, N.H.) in the loss to the Corsairs, as Gosselin belted a career-high 19 kills with 17 digs and Wachowiak 15 kills, four service aces and four total blocks in the five-set defeat.

Junior Abbie McPhee (Epping, N.H.) added a match-high 32 assists with 18 digs, junior Alli Hollander (Thermal, Calif.) registered five kills, nine assists and nine digs, junior libero Sam Wright (Westport, Mass.) contributed 13 digs, and freshman Jordynne Copp (Cumberland, Maine) chipped in with four kills and three total blocks versus the Corsairs.

Saint Joseph's completed the 2014 schedule without a five-set victory, as the Monks fell to 0-9 on the season in matches requiring a deciding set.

Wachowiak was outstanding again in the loss to the Huskies, as the junior middle blocker boasted 15 kills, six digs and four total blocks in the loss while Gosselin chimed in with eight kills and 17 digs against USM. Copp capped her rookie campaign with a solid nine-dig performance while Wright tied the Monks' four-set record with 32 digs.

McPhee registered 37 assists and 15 digs, Hollander totaled five kills and 14 digs and junior Cassie Leech (Middleborough, Mass.) added four kills and 11 digs.

The Huskies rolled to victory with the help of four double-digit kill performances, as Renee Trottier led the way with 15 kills and Jessica Williamson notched 13 in the triumph. Megan Nilson accumulated a match-high 48 assists versus the Monks.
