Monks End Rams’ Win Streak, Improve to 2-1 in GNAC Play

BOSTON, Mass. – Saint Joseph's College (5-8, 2-1 GNAC) defeated Suffolk University (8-7, 1-2 GNAC), 3-1 (25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-12), in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) volleyball action on Wednesday night.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S

  • Freshman Kelsey Bickford (Somersworth, N.H.) racked up a career-high 13 kills and posted a solid .346 attack rate with a pair of block assists
  • Senior Victoria Huntley (Ellsworth, Maine) registered an impressive double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs along with a pair of service aces
  • Senior Shadai Gosselin (Somersworth, N.H.) talled seven kills and 15 digs
  • Sophomore Sarah Dyer (Seabrook, N.H.) added 38 assists, three kills, and seven digs
  • Sophomore Jennelle Thompson (Farmington, N.H.) produced 28 digs and two kills

LEADERS – SUFFOLK:

  • Chidera Nwankwo posted a season-high 12 kills on a .400 hitting clip to go along with five blocks
  • Bridget Allison also notched 12 kills with a .310 attack rate and chipped in 11 digs defensively
  • Talia Lombardo was two kills shy of a triple double with 18 digs, 13 assists and eight kills
  • Liz Kerek added 20 assists and Jessica Rexrode and Heidy Barreiro chipped in on the defensive end with 13 digs and 12 digs, respectively

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held the lead in kills (47-43), assists (47-41), digs (82-81), blocks (9-8), and aces (7-3). Both teams posted a .116 attack percentage.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

Since 1989, Saint Joseph's is now 10-3 versus Suffolk University, which entered tonight's match riding a four-game winning streak.

Both teams will compete in a tri-match this Saturday, when Saint Joseph's travels to University of Saint Joseph for a GNAC tilt versus the Blue Jays and a non-conference match against Pratt Institute while Suffolk heads to Emmanuel College for GNAC matches versus the Saints and Albertus Magnus College.
