Saint Joseph's Volleyball Freshman Class Announced

Saint Joseph's Volleyball Freshman Class Announced

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College volleyball Class of 2022 has been released.

The incoming class features nine newcomers from four different states and includes four middle blockers, three outside hitters, a libero and a setter.

The Monks' freshman class looks to add height (six players stand at 5'8" or taller), athleticism, and depth to a team that lost one player – middle blocker Jordynne Copp – to graduation last spring. Copp, a two-year team captain, tallied 273 kills, 102 digs, and 69 total blocks with a .278 hitting percentage in 2017 and garnered Second Team All-Conference honors for her efforts.

Copp also was selected to play in the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Senior Classic All-Star Game, becoming the second SJC player to do so.

In 2017, the Monks posted a 14-18 overall record with a 6-6 mark in GNAC under the watch of Head Coach Alexis Michal, who left the College last spring to pursue other opportunities. St. Joe's earned the #6 seed in the GNAC Tournament, but suffered an opening-round 3-0 loss at the hands of third-seeded Rivier University on October 31st.

Head Coach Jon Roberts, who was named as the Monks' first full-time skipper earlier this summer, looks forward to working with the returners and newcomers when preseason starts in about a week. "I'm excited to get started and to see the first-year players in action," adds Roberts. "Based on the early interaction I've had with them, the newcomers seem dedicated and eager to make the transition to collegiate volleyball."
