Leopards Defeat Monks, 3-0

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth Institute (4-1) defeated Saint Joseph's College (0-5), 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-13) in a non-conference women's volleyball match on Saturday afternoon.

Saint Joseph's was paced by seven kills apiece from freshman Nicole Baron (Derry, N.H.) and sophomore Erin Olson (Stoughton, Mass.), while senior Jennelle Thompson (Rochester, N.H.) and sophomore Sophia Randall (Epping, N.H.) each had 15 digs. Senior Sarah Dyer (Seabrook, N.H.) rounded out double-digit defense with 12 digs and also tallied 11 assists. Junior Kelsey Bickford (Somersworth, N.H.) added four kills in the setback.

Freshman Mary Zlotosch (Durham, N.H.), and juniors Samantha Lassiter (Rogers, Ark.) and Claire Quick (Mission Viejo, Calif.) each tallied three kills to lead the Leopards over the Monks in the first set, 25-17.

Wentworth led by as much as seven points in the middle frame (20-13), before St. Joe's crawled back with a quick 5-1 run – thanks to a kill apiece from Randall and Bickford - to shrink the deficit to three, 21-18. The Leopards then forced the Monks into a pair of errors, while junior Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, Ill.) and Zlotosch put down a kill each to take the second set 25-20.

Wentworth hit a match-best .304 in the final frame, and put down 10 kills as a team, paced by Rogoz and Lassiter with three apiece. Freshman Jade Iadarola (Miami, Fla.) locked down the defense with seven digs in the set, as the Leopards posted a 25-13 win to seal the match sweep.

Rogoz registered a match-high eight kills and was one of three Leopards to reach double-digits in digs with 13 overall. Junior Lexie Cambray (Bedford, N.H.) put down 21 digs in the win – also a match-best – while Quick recorded 10. Zlotosch tallied seven kills on .278 hitting, while dishing out 16 assists, while both Lassiter and freshman Abigail Mains (Goldendale, Wash.) had six kills apiece. Lassiter hit .667 on the afternoon, committing zero errors on nine attempts.

Saint Joseph's will host University of Southern Maine on Thursday at 6:00 PM while Wentworth is back in action Tuesday with a 7:00 PM match at Lasell College.
