Colby-Sawyer Defeats Saint Joseph's, 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 13, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's volleyball team defeated Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. The Chargers won by scores of 25-18, 25-11 and 25-17.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 16-8 overall and 7-2 in the GNAC standings. The Chargers will step out of conference on Thursday for a match at Southern Maine. Saint Joseph's drops to 6-14 overall and 3-5 in conference action. The Monks travel to Husson on Tuesday.

Colby-Sawyer senior Courtney Murray (Quincy, Mass.) led all players with 11 kills on .435 hitting. First-year Maddie Bromley (Truckee, Calif.) also reached double figures with 10 kills to go along with 12 digs. Junior Naarah Cox (Boston, Mass.) hit .462 to finish with seven kills. First-year Anna Allen (Los Angeles, Calif.) posted 29 assists, nine digs and three kills, while junior Morgan Flynn (Reading, Mass.) collected a team best 15 digs.

The Monks were led by junior Kelsey Bickford's (Somersworth, N.H.) eight kills. First-year Nicole Baron (Derry, N.H.) hit .429 to be second on the team with seven kills. Senior Jennelle Thompson (Rochester, N.H.) tallied a match best 20 digs.

Most of the first set was tightly contested and featured nine ties and four lead changes. With the set tied at 17-17, the Chargers pulled away behind great serving from first-year Charlotte Frivoll (Essex Junction, Vt.) to finish the frame on an 8-1 run. Bickford had six kills to lead all players in the set. Colby-Sawyer hit .296 and was led by Cox who was 4-for-4.

Colby-Sawyer found the rhythm on offense in the second set and led the rest of the way after the score was tied at 2-2. Murray had five of her 11 kills in the set.

The third set was much of the same for Colby-Sawyer as the team would create separation after an early 5-5 tie. The Chargers benefited from five aces in the set and finished the match with 11.
