BOSTON, MA – The third-seeded Saints of Emmanuel College defeated the sixth-seeded Monks of Saint Joseph’s College, 3-1, in the quarterfinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Tuesday night. Senior outside hitter Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) slammed down 21 kills, including the 1,000th of her collegiate career, to lead the Saints past the Monks, 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 25-19.

The Monks topped Wentworth Institute, 3-2, before falling to Emerson College and Wheaton by 3-0 scores in the teams final two matches. Kiah Begley 13 (Berwick, ME/Saint Thomas Aquinas) handed out 53 assists in the three contests.

GORHAM, ME Saint Josephs (1-0) defeated University of Southern Maine (0-1), 3-1, in the 2010 volleyball opener for both teams at Hill Gymnasium on Wednesday evening. Sarah Hawkes 13 (Pownal, ME) registered a match-high 11 kills for the Monks, who rallied to win three straight after dropping the first game to the Huskies.
