Women Place 42nd in NCAA Regional

CUMBERLAND, ME - The St. Joe's Women's Cross Country squad tallied 1214 points and finished in 42nd place in the NCAA New England Regional, held at the Twin Brooks course on Saturday afternoon. Katie Murphy '11 (Baileyville, ME) paced the Monks with a 25:52.2 performance, good for 171st overall, in the 6K event.

MIT, with three runners in the top ten, including individual champion Jacqui Wentz (21:35.7), amassed 63 team points and edged out Middlebury, who also earned 63 points, after tiebreaker rules were applied. If two teams are tied, the sixth runner comes into play. The #6 MIT runner, Brook Johnson, placed 28th (22:39.3), just ahead of Erin Toner, the 6th runner for Middlebury, who finished 29th with a 22:41.4 effort.

Williams placed third with 99 points and was followed by Amherst (116) and Wesleyan (159) to round out the top five.

For the Monks, Shannon Marden '10 (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) placed 227th with a 26:58.7 performance, Mary Casinghino '10 (Manchester, NH) was 263rd with a 27:59.9 effort, Allison Pearsall '12 (West Newbury, MA) placed 268th (28:09.5) and Claire Cook '10 (Sangerville, ME) was 285th (29:31.1).

Overall, 47 New England institutions fully competed and 315 individuals participated in the event.
