WATERVILLE, ME – The Saint Joseph's College women's cross country team placed sixth with 163 points in the State of Maine Cross Country Championship on Saturday.
Highlighted by a 22nd-place finish by junior Amber Dostie (Standish, Maine), who toured the 5K course in 20:45, the Monks placed three runners in the top 35. Junior Heather Eaton (Lincolnville, Maine) finished 30th with a 21:13 time and sophomore Lauren Rabideau (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) was 32nd with a 21:15 effort.
With 32 team points, Bates College cruised to the State of Maine team title for the second-consecutive year, well ahead of runner-up Colby College, which finished the meet with 52 points. Bowdoin College (76 points), Southern Maine (113) and Husson University (135) rounded out the top five competing institutions.
Maine-Farmington (205), Maine-Presque Isle (250), Maine Maritime (265) and Thomas College (285) also participated in the annual event.
Lucy Skinner of Bowdoin paced the 121-runner field with a 19:00 effort, 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Colby's Kate Connolly. Alanna McDonough of Colby placed third (19:13) while a pair of Bates runners, Elena Jay (19:19) and Katherine Nixon (19:31), placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
For the Monks, freshman Marie Harrington (Limerick, Maine) finished 67th (23:09), junior Audrey Curry (Perry, Maine) placed 83rd (24:44) and freshman Mikaela Rowell (Derry, N.H.) raced to an 89th-place (25:09) finish.
Marisa Lundy (Merrimac, Mass.) (96, 25:45), Melissa Deplanche (Dover, N.H.) (102, 27:09), Victoria Ramos (North Scituate, R.I.) (106, 27:37), Meghan Fullarton (Windham, Maine) (118, 34:15) and Sarah Bakun (Clinton, Mass.) (119, 34:16) also ran in the state championship for Saint Joseph's.
