BRISTOL, R.I. – Saint Joseph's College competed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Cross Country Championships at Colt State Park on Saturday afternoon. The men finished fourth with 106 points while the women totaled 174 points and placed sixth.

THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:

• Sophomore Marisa Quirion (Gardiner, Maine) earned Second Team All-Conference honors by placing 14th with a 20:50 performance
• Freshman Emma Belyea (Caribou, Maine) was 39th with a 22:52 effort
• Freshman Meghan Glisson (Merrimack, N.H.) finished 40th with a 22:59 time
• Freshman Britney Theroux (West Warwick, R.I.) placed 46th (23:19)
• Freshman Lindsay Barrow (Granby, Conn.) was 53rd (23:47)
• Sophomore Analyse Harris (Windham, Maine) finished 57th (24:04)
• Freshman Holly Moores (Rollinsford, N.H.) placed 61st (24:20)
• Freshman Elizabeth Cummons (Lincolnville, Maine) was 62nd (24:23)
• Junior Alysha Smith (Jaffrey, N.H.) finished 64th (24:34)
• Sophomore Mckenzie Pepin (Windham, Maine) placed 68th (24:38)
• Sophomore Amanda Tavoletti (Reading, Mass.) was 69th (24:52)
• Sophomore Mackenzie Beaudoin (Fayette, Maine) finished 71st (25:12)

RECAP:

Norwich University completed the sweep with a five-point victory on the women's side, as the Cadets posted 57 points to top Simmons College (62) and earn their second-consecutive GNAC Championship. Norwich featured two runners in the top six, including individual champion Haddie Lary, who toured the 5K course in 19:18 to edge out Suffolk University sophomore Emma Weisse for the crown.

Emmanuel (93) placed third, Regis (Mass.) was fourth (97), and Johnson & Wales closed out the top five teams with 157 points. Suffolk (186), University of Saint Joseph (CT) (200), Rivier (224), Lasell (268), Mount Ida (273), and Anna Maria (346) rounded out the group of 12 competing institutions.

Lary claimed GNAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honors with the top finish while Emmanuel's Stephanie Forester collected Rookie of the Year accolades as the top first-year runner. Simmons Head Coach Eric Ashe was selected as the GNAC Coach of the Year.

THE RUNDOWN – MEN:

• Senior Lucas Fisher (Strafford, N.H.) placed 15th, narrowly missing All-Conference honors with a 29:26 performance
• Freshman Brandon Whitlock (Westbrook, Maine) finished 24th with a 30:37 time
• Sophomore Jacob Boissonnault (Biddeford, Maine) toured the 8K course in 30:50 and was 27th
• Freshman Connor Rice (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) placed 34th (31:14)
• Freshman JD Ndayishimiye (Westbrook, Maine) finished 36th (31:36)
• Freshman Michael Mason (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was 41st (32:11)
• Sophomore Andrew D'Ovidio (Walpole, Mass.) placed 44th (32:32)
• Sophomore Ben Plante (Biddeford, Maine) was 49th (33:10)

RECAP:

For the second-consecutive season, Norwich University claimed the GNAC Men's Cross Country Championship. The Cadets featured seven runners in the top eight overall, including individual winner Brody Hale, who notched a 27:09 time, nine seconds faster than his sophomore teammate, Adam Saucier.

Emmanuel College finished second (68), Regis (Mass.) was third (83), and Johnson & Wales University rounded out the top five competing institutions with 160 points. Mount Ida College (170), Lasell College (175), Suffolk University (205), Rivier University (267), and Anna Maria College (286) also competed in this year's championship event.

With the top finish, Hale was crowned as the GNAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, Norwich freshman Trenton Shimata earned GNAC Rookie of the Year honors as the race's top-finishing first-year runner, and Norwich Head Coach Nick Cooper was chosen as the GNAC Coach of the Year.

Both SJC teams will compete in the NCAA DIII New England Regional Championship at the Gorham Country Club on Saturday, November 11th.
