NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Saint Joseph's College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2019 season with a pair of third-place finishes in the Colby-Sawyer Charger Invitational on Saturday. The men tallied 66 points while the women notched 67 points.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
With all five scorers finishing in the top 10 – including winner Zoe Utton, who toured the 5K course in 20:12 – Colby-Sawyer easily claimed the invitational title with 25 team points, well ahead of runner-up Plymouth State University, which registered 51 points in the 2019 opener.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Freshman Kelsey Kennedy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) paced the Monks and finished fifth overall with a 21:10 effort
- First-year Camilla Grosso (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) placed 16th with a 22:32 time
- Junior Lauren Fisher (Hampton Falls, N.H.) was 17th (22:36)
- Sophomore Julia Heroux (Albion, R.I.) raced to an 18th-place finish (22:43)
- Freshman Haley Gunn (Litchfield, Maine) finished 20th (22:48)
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
Plymouth State, which placed five runners in the top 10, captured the men's title with 36 points, comfortably ahead of Colby-Sawyer, which recorded 54 points and featured the race winner, junior Liam Fleming, who ran the 5K course in 16:37.
FOR THE MONKS:
- Sophomore Troy Hendricks (Hiram, Maine) placed second overall with a 16:51 performance
- Sophomore Troy Huberdeau (Plaistow, N.H.) was sixth with a 17:16 time
- Sophomore Michael Brooks (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished 12th (17:35)
- Junior Michael Mason (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed 32nd (18:40)
- Freshman Ricardo Reyes (Worcester, Mass.) was 36th (18:43)
