Brian Curtin became the fifth athletic director in Saint Joseph’s College Athletics history when he was hired to lead the department in May of 2006.

Curtin, selected by his peers as the GNAC Executive of the Year in 2012, 2014 and 2016, has helped the SJC Athletics department undergo unprecedented growth during his tenure. When he arrived on campus in 2006, Saint Joseph’s sponsored 11 sports: men’s and women’s cross country, field hockey, golf, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, and softball. Four teams, men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s swimming, were added to the SJC offering in the fall of 2007, indoor and outdoor men’s and women’s track and field teams were added in 2012, and most recently men's and women's alpine skiing teams were introduced to the docket, increasing the total of varsity sports to 21.

Under Curtin's watch, Saint Joseph's claimed the 2012 GNAC Men's Commissioner's Cup, which is awarded annually to the member institutions with the highest number of points, in both men’s and women’s sports collectively, received from winning conference championships and conference tournament placement. The Monks repeated the achievement in 2019.

Since his arrival, the Monks have captured 30 conference titles and successfully hosted numerous tournament and championship events.

He has spearheaded numerous efforts to improve the athletic facilities at the College, including the construction of the Monks' $5 million lighted turf and track athletics complex, which opened in the fall of 2017. Curtin also oversaw the planning process for, and building of, the Saint Joseph's College Hall of Fame Room, which was revealed to the public in the fall of 2014.

Before coming to St. Joe’s, Curtin was the men's basketball coach and an athletic administrator at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y. for nine years. He then became an assistant coach at Dartmouth College, where his duties included player development, scouting and recruiting. Following his stint at Dartmouth, Curtin joined the basketball staff at American University where he worked as an assistant for two years.

Curtin earned his B.A. in Journalism from Saint Michael's College and his M.A. in Education and Human Development from George Washington University, where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude honors. While at Saint Michael's College, he set several records in cross country that still stand and was inducted into the Saint Michael's College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.

Curtin, who grew up in Clifton Park, N.Y., is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and serves as the GNAC Men’s Basketball Chairman. He currently resides in Portland with his wife, Shanda.
