STANDISH, Maine – The 15th Saint Joseph’s College Athletics Hall of Fame class has been announced. Doug MacCallum ‘10, Emily Leverone ‘12, Alyssa Marchant ‘11, and the 1994 Softball Team comprise the 2017 class, which will be inducted with a ceremony on Saturday, September 9th.
Doug MacCallum ’10, from Hingham, Massachusetts, is the second men’s soccer player – and first field player - to be inducted into the Saint Joseph’s Athletics Hall of Fame. The two-time All-Conference honoree enters the Hall of Fame as the program’s career leader in goals (38) and points (87) and ranks second in game-winning goals (13) and shots (183).
As a junior, MacCallum helped lead the Monks to an ECAC Tournament berth and was the leading scorer on the 2009 side, which claimed the program’s first Great Northeast Athletic Conference title and subsequent NCAA Tournament berth.
Alyssa Marchant ’11, who hails from Wakefield, Massachusetts, is deservingly the first women’s lacrosse player to enter the Hall of Fame. The three-time First Team All-Conference selection and 2011 GNAC Offensive Player of the Year held 25 team records upon graduation and remains at or near the top of nearly every statistical career and single-season category at the time of her induction. Marchant heads into the Hall ranked second in team history in goals (203), points (231), and shots (428), third in man-up goals (8), free-position goals (24), and fifth in ground balls (182) and draw controls (127).
Marchant, the first four-year player for the women’s lacrosse team, was the first SJC player to net 200 career goals and just the second in GNAC women’s lacrosse history to surpass the plateau.
Emily Leverone ’12, a Hampton, New Hampshire native, is perhaps the most feared hitter in Saint Joseph’s softball history. The four-time First Team All-GNAC honoree capped her career as the owner of 19 team records and remains as the Monks’ all-time leader in runs (168), hits (258), doubles (66), home runs (37), RBI (211), slugging (.829), OPS (1.340), extra-base hits (113), and total bases (455). At the time of her induction, Leverone also ranks second in team history in at bats (549), batting (.470), and on-base percentage (.511) and holds the SJC single-season marks for home runs (11), RBI (60), batting (.549), slugging (.920), on-base percentage (.581), OPS (1.501), extra-base hits (33), and total bases (126).
During her career, Leverone helped guide the Monks to a 129-43 (.750) overall record, including an 83-18 (.822) mark in conference play, with two ECAC Tournament appearances and a pair of GNAC Championships.
Led by Head Coach and 2008 Saint Joseph’s Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Dick Bailey, the 1994 Softball Team posted a 27-9 (.750) overall record and claimed Maine Athletic Conference (MAC), NAIA New England, and NAIA Northeast Championships en route to securing the program’s first NAIA National Tournament appearance. The 1994 team opened the season with a 20-2 record and suffered consecutive losses on just two occasions – first against NCAA DI Harvard University and again in the NAIA National Tournament, where the Monks’ historic season came to a close with a setback at the hands of Dana College.
When the dust settled, the 1994 Softball Team had set program records for victories, doubles (46), home runs (8), and shutouts (12) and ace pitcher Dani Waterman headlined a list of individual accolades by earning All-America, All-District, and All-State honors as well as NAIA District 5, State of Maine, and Conference Player of the Year awards.
Three members of the 1994 team are already in the SJC Athletics Hall of Fame, as Waterman was a member of the inaugural SJC Hall of Fame class in 2000, outfielder Kim Rodgers ’94 was inducted in 2001, and infielder/pitcher Cindy Kamszik ’97 was a 2002 inductee.
The Hall of Fame evening begins at 5:00 PM with a ‘plaque-revealing’ reception and is followed by the induction ceremony.
