NASHUA, NH - The SJC baseball team swept conference foe Daniel Webster College on Sunday, 10-5 and 9-0. The Monks tallied 28 hits in the two games and were led by SR Luke Enman (Milan, NH), who had 4 hits, including a double and a triple, with 5 RBI's in the doubleheader. Game two starting pitcher FY Mason Roberge (Franklin, NH) went 5 innings, struck out 5 and allowed no runs and two hits to earn his second win of the season. The Monks improve to 11-10 overall and 4-4 in GNAC play with the sweep.

GAME ONE

Daniel Webster jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning when SO Nick Michaud (Windsor Locks, CT) turned on a FY Matt Mullen (Rockland, MA) fastball for a grand slam home run with two outs. SO Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, ME) led off the top of the second with a solo blast, his 4th long ball of the season, to help the Monks chip away at the Eagles' early lead. Mullen uncorked a wild pitch in the second inning that allowed FY David Totman (Raynham, MA), who reached on a one-out single, to score from third base and give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.

The Monks seemed unaffected by the early deficit, however, as the SJC lineup went to work in the top of the third inning. St. Joe's rattled off 8 hits and scored 6 runs, all with two outs, to take a 7-5 lead. FY Todd Keneborus (Hollis Center, ME) led off the inning with a single and it appeared he would be stranded at first base after SR Andrew Wood (South Portland, ME) and JR Wade Oliver (Owls Head, ME) followed with line-outs to shortstop and centerfield, respectively. SR Brian Schools (Gorham, ME) sparked the two-out rally with a single and SR Luke Enman (Milan, NH) followed suit with a base knock of his own. Grant-Roy singled to send home Keneborus and SR Dustin Spiller (Gorham, ME) followed with an RBI single of his own that saw Schools cross the plate. FY Ian Lee (Hampden, ME) plated two SJC runners with a double to left-center that scored both Enman and Grant-Roy to cap the scoring.

St. Joe's went on to add three insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-run lead, 10-5. Keneborus opened the inning with a single and quickly stole second base. Andrew Wood followed with a base knock, was lifted for pinch-runner FY John Swasey (South Berwick, ME), who also swiped second. Wade Oliver sent them both home with a triple to the right-center gap and later scored on a Luke Enman double to complete the SJC and game scoring.

SO Andrew Keirstead (Westbrook, ME) came in to toe the slab in the 3rd inning for the Monks in relief of starter Matt Mullen, who showed flashes of brilliance with 3 strikeouts in 2 innings of work. The crafty Keirstead managed to keep the Eagles in check for three innings, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 5, to earn the victory, his second of the season. SO Chris Nanof (Clinton, MA) threw two innings to finish the game and allowed one hit and struck out one DWC batter.

For St. Joe's, Todd Keneborus was 3-3 with 2 runs and a stolen base, Ben Grant-Roy 2-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBI's, Ian Lee 2-4 with a run and 2 RBI's and Luke Enman went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.

GAME TWO

Wade Oliver led off for the Monks with a single and was driven home by a Brian Schools double. St. Joe's scored twice more in the third inning to stake a 3-0 lead when Schools scored on a DWC miscue and Luke Enman was driven home by a Dustin Spiller single.

SO Travis Adams (Saco, ME), Oliver and Schools all scored when Enman tripled to deep right field to give the Monks a 6-0 lead.

St. Joe's went on to tack on single runs in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings to complete the game scoring and earn a 9-0 victory. In the 5th, SO Pat Moran (Winterport, ME) singled and was driven home by a Wade Oliver single. Dustin Spiller doubled in the 6th inning and scored on a John Swasey base hit, the first of his college career. In the seventh inning FY Joe Douglass (Poland, ME) doubled and scored on a Luke Enman sacrifice fly to left field to cap the scoring for the day.

For the Monks, Luke Enman was 2-4 with a run and 4 RBI's, Dustin Spiller 2-4 with a run and an RBI and Wade Oliver 2-3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Starting pitcher Mason Roberge provided the Royal Blue with the best start of his young career. Roberge was perfect through 3 2/3 innings before allowing an infield single to SO Rob Leary (Litchfield, NH). The big righthander pitched 5 innings and allowed 3 hits and no walks while striking out 5 DWC batters to pick up his second win of the season. JR Andrew Pooler (Somesville, MA) and FY Bryant Lausberg (Somersworth, NH) each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.

St. Joe's is set to host Bowdoin College (2) in the home opener on Tuesday, April 08, 2008 at 3:00 PM.
