Monks Soar Past Eagles, 13-4

BANGOR, ME - The St. Joe's baseball team (16-11, 5-5 GNAC) had 16 hits and four different Monks pitchers combined to allow 3 earned runs and 6 hits in a 13-4 victory over Husson College on Monday evening. Starting pitcher FY Mason Roberge (Franklin, NH) allowed 6 hits and struck out 3 in five innings of work to earn his third win of the season. Sophomore catcher Travis Adams (Saco, ME) led five SJC repeat hitters with 3 hits and SR Luke Enman (Milan, NH) blasted his fourth home run of the year in the win.

The Monks began the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. JR Wade Oliver (Owls Head, ME) walked, SR Brian Schools (Gorham, ME) recorded a bunt single and JR Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, ME) sent them both across the plate with a single.

Husson tied the game at two apiece with 2 hits and 2 SJC errors in the bottom of the fourth inning. SO Dennis Graham (Miramichi, NB) scored on a wild pitch by Roberge and SR Jeff Miller (Veazie, ME) scored on an error in the inning.

The Monks broke through in the fifth inning to score 6 runs with two outs. SO Pat Moran (Winterport, ME) provided the big hit of the inning with a bases-loaded triple to knock in three runs. Moran's ball was just short of a grand slam as the ball hit off the very top of the chain link fence and ricocheted back into play. FY Eric LaBatte (Rochester, NH) drove home two runs with a double and FY Ian Lee (Hampden, ME) recorded an RBI single in the offensive outburst that saw the Monks take an 8-2 lead.

The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to keep the game within reach, 8-4. Jeff Miller tripled home Graham and later scored on a FY Chris Maguire (Bucksport, ME) groundout to second base.

Travis Adams worked a base on balls with the bases loaded to record an RBI in the 6th inning to increase the SJC lead to 9-4.

Luke Enman notched his fourth long ball of the season, a two-run blast, in the 7th inning and the Monks added insurance runs in both the 8th and 9th innings to give St. Joe's a 13-4 victory. Oliver singled home Adams in the eighth and FY Chris Campbell (Rochester, NH) lifted a double to right field to knock home Grant-Roy in the ninth inning.

For the Monks, Oliver, Schools, Grant-Roy and LaBatte all recorded two hits. Grant-Roy walked four times and scored 3 runs and Pat Moran scored a run and had 3 RBI's.

Luke Enman passed Mark Clapp '07 on the SJC all-time at-bats list with his trip to the plate in the sixth inning. Enman now holds the top spot on the list with 537 and counting.

SJC starter Mason Roberge recorded the victory and SO Mike Burdin (Gardiner, ME), JR Andrew Pooler (Somesville, ME) and Brian Schools combined to allow just 2 Eagle hits in four innings of relief.

For Husson, Dennis Graham was 2-4 with 2 runs and Jeff Miller registered a triple and 2 runs in the loss. Starting pitcher FY Kyle Leeman (Bangor, ME) takes the loss for Husson.

St. Joe's will host Thomas College on Wednesday, April 16th. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
