In the third game Friday, No. 1 Tufts University was facing No. 7 Massachusetts Boston in a contesting featuring the two remaining unbeaten teams, with that winner advancing to the championship round Sautrday at 5 p.m.

To start off the afternoon, junior righty Evan Michaud (Windsor Locks, Conn.) made quick work of the Monks retiring three of the four batters he faced.  Using the early momentum the Golden Bears made their first dent of the day on the scoreboard after junior outfielder Ryan Dudzinski (Bristol, Conn.) reached home plate on a single by junior Tony Trubia (Tolland, Conn.)

After a scoreless second inning for both teams, St. Joseph's used four hits to jump out to a 3-1 lead, despite having two outs on the scoreboard.  Driving in the Monk's first run of the day was junior Todd Keneborus (Hollis Center, New Hampshire) on an RBI single which snuck through the right side.

Keneborus was solid at the plate for the Monks as he went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.  Giving St. Joseph's its first lead of the afternoon was senior Ben Grant-Roy (Biddeford, Maine) on an RBI double to right field.  Senior Pat Moran (Winterport, Maine) plated the final run of the decisive inning with an infield single to make it a two-run ball game.

Neither team would produce a run in the fourth and fifth innings, but in the bottom half of the sixth the Golden Bears made it a one-run game on an RBI single by senior Justin Walz (Groton, Conn.), which scored Dudzinski.

Keirstead and Roberge scatted seven-hits in the victory, and surrendered just three walks, while fanning two batters.  The victory was Keirstead's second of the season against two losses, and the save marked Roberge's second.

Starting on the hill for the Golden Bears was junior righty Evan Michaud (Windor Locks, Conn.), who surrendered all three runs through 7 2/3 innings.  Michaud led the afternoon with five strikeouts, and walked only three batters in what was his fourth loss of the year (4-4).  Closing out the contest was sophomore Mike Lawlor (Windsor, Conn.) who did not allow a hit in his 1 1/3 innings of work.
