Lorenc & Gruntkosky Collect GNAC Weekly Honors

STANDISH, ME – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honors have been announced and two Saint Joseph's College baseball players have earned accolades.

Senior right fielder Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, N.Y.) has collected GNAC Player of the Week honors for the second time this month and senior righthander Joe Gruntkosky (Peabody, Mass.) has been selected as the GNAC Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his career.

Lorenc saw his season batting average jump over 70 points by hitting .650 (13-20) with three runs, three doubles, a triple, six RBI and three stolen bases in seven contests last week. The senior right fielder posted five multiple-hit efforts during the week and was a combined 6-7 with a run, a double and a pair of RBI in a GNAC split with Suffolk University on Saturday.

Gruntkosky delivered his best pitching performance of the season when Saint Joseph's needed it the most, tossing a three-hitter with no walks and eight strikeouts in an important win over Suffolk University on Saturday. No runner advanced past second base in the Monks' victory, which clinched the #2 seed - and opening round bye - in the GNAC Tournament.

Lorenc currently leads the Monks in batting (.356, 37-104), slugging (.500) and stolen bases (8) and ranks second on the team in doubles (8) and RBI (25) through 30 contests. The senior slugger was also named as the GNAC Player of the Week on April 7th.

Gruntkosky sports a 2.08 ERA with a 2-0 record and 27 strikeouts – versus just four walks – in 26 innings this spring. The senior has not surrendered a run over his last 19 innings, allowing 11 hits and three walks with 23 strikeouts during the dominant stretch.

Saint Joseph's (20-12, 11-3 GNAC) will host the GNAC Tournament this weekend and faces #3 Lasell College in a quarterfinal contest at 3:30 PM on Thursday.
