Four Players Earn NEIBA All-New England Honors

STANDISH, ME – The 2014 New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) All-Region accolades have been released and four Saint Joseph's College players have been honored.

Junior first baseman Nic Lops (South Portland, Maine/Cheverus) has collected Second Team honors while junior catcher Joe Coyne (Duxbury, Mass.), senior outfielder Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, N.Y.) and sophomore pitcher Corey McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) have been listed on the Third Team.

Lops headlines the group after hitting .331 (51-154) with 21 runs, 14 doubles and 46 RBI during his junior season. The 2014 First Team All-GNAC honoree led the Monks in doubles and RBI and finished the year tied for second in batting average. The NEIBA honor is the second of his career, as the junior slugger claimed Third Team mention in 2012 and also collected GNAC Rookie of the Year honors that spring.

Coyne enjoyed yet another fine season in 2014, as the junior catcher hit .329 (52-158) with 29 runs, 10 doubles, four home runs and 25 RBI while appearing in all 45 games for the Royal Blue this spring. A true model of consistency, the three-time First Team All-GNAC honoree has hit at least .316 in each of his three NCAA seasons and heads into his senior campaign owning a career .331 (157-475) batting average with 83 runs and 85 RBI over 135 contests. The regional accolade is the first of Coyne's career.

Lorenc collects the first NEIBA honor of his career after hitting .353 (53-150) with 31 runs, 12 doubles, three home runs, 36 RBI and 11 stolen bases as a senior. A four-time All-Conference honoree, Lorenc led the Monks in hitting, slugging (.520), OBP (.428), total bases (78) and stolen bases and closed out his career as the program's all-time leader in games (177) and hit by pitch (40) while hitting .333 (195-586) with 110 runs, 39 doubles, 15 home runs, 124 RBI and 25 steals over four seasons.

McNamara, the 2014 GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, earns NEIBA honors for the first time after leading the SJC pitching staff in ERA (1.49), appearances (19), saves (5) and opponents' batting average (.211) as a sophomore. The crafty righthander posted a 5-1 record with 32 strikeouts and just eight walks in 48.1 innings this spring.

This season, Saint Joseph's went 30-15 overall and 11-3 in GNAC play en route to notching the program's ninth conference title (three NAC, six GNAC) over the last 10 years. With the GNAC title, the Monks earned a berth into the NCAA DIII New England Baseball Regional Tournament for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. As the #6 seed playing at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's defeated #7 Worcester State and #8 Mitchell College but suffered losses to #3 Tufts University and #5 MIT to bow out of the regional tourney.
