Lorenc Collects Second Team All-ECAC Honor

STANDISH, ME - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2014 Division III New England Baseball All-Star Teams have been announced and Saint Joseph's College senior outfielder Alex Lorenc (Nanuet, N.Y.) has collected Second Team accolades.

Lorenc, a four-time All-Conference selection who also earned Third Team NEIBA All-New England honors this year, .353 (53-150) with 31 runs, 12 doubles, three home runs, 36 RBI and 11 stolen bases while helping the Monks claim the program's fifth-consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship. Recruited as a catcher, the converted outfielder paced the Royal Blue in batting average, slugging (.520), OBP (.428), total bases (78) and stolen bases while serving as a team captain this season.

The four-year starter closed out his career as the program's all-time leader in games (177) and hit by pitch (40) while hitting .333 (195-586) with 110 runs, 39 doubles, 15 home runs, 124 RBI and 25 steals.

Lorenc is one of just three GNAC players to earn an ECAC honor this spring, joining utility player Billy Whaley of Norwich University and starting pitcher Jake Marchesseault of Johnson & Wales University.

This season, Saint Joseph's went 30-15 overall and 11-3 in GNAC play en route to notching the program's ninth conference title (three NAC, six GNAC) over the last 10 years. With the GNAC title, the Monks earned a berth into the NCAA DIII New England Baseball Regional Tournament for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. As the #6 seed playing at Whitehouse Field in Harwich, Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's defeated #7 Worcester State and #8 Mitchell College but suffered losses to #3 Tufts University and #5 MIT to bow out of the regional tourney.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) is the nation's largest and only multidivisional athletic conference, with over 300 Division I, II and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Colorado. Established in 1938 with 58 charter members, the ECAC has since emerged as the nationwide leader in service.
