Murphy Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards have been released and Saint Joseph's College freshman infielder Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) has been selected as the GNAC Corvais Baseball Rookie of the Week.

Murphy returned from injury in time to play in the doubleheader at Norwich on Saturday and the freshman infielder went 3-6 with three runs, a double, a steal, and two RBI in the two-game sweep.

The first-year infielder currently leads the Monks with a .386 (27-70) batting average and has recorded 13 runs, six doubles, one triple, 14 RBI and a stolen base in 25 games this spring. For Murphy, the weekly conference accolade is a career first.

Saint Joseph's (22-12, 12-2 GNAC) has earned the top seed in the 2016 GNAC Tournament and will host the winner of the #5 Albertus Magnus / #4 Johnson & Wales preliminary contest – being played later today – at 3:30 PM on Thursday.
