SJC Baseball Community Service Recap for the 2016 Fall Semester

STANDISH, Maine – The Saint Joseph's College baseball team participated in a handful of community service events during the 2016 fall semester.

The effort began on September 15th when team members volunteered for the Pearson's Farm Work Day, as the group assisted Farm Manager Michial Russell and his staff with various tasks. On September 29th, the team was involved in a project to aerate & re-seed the baseball field

On October 15th a large contingent of SJC baseball players volunteered to staff the Triple-B: Boots, Band & BBQ event at Riding to the Top, a therapeutic riding center in Windham. Players assisted with an auction, which ran from 4:00 – 11:00 PM and raised over $125,000 in support of the organization's Rider Scholarship and Horse Funds.

On November 14 the team volunteered for a day of work to shut the baseball field down for the winter, a workload that included edging the infield, taking down cages, nets, and windscreen and putting everything away for the winter, as well as transporting all of the team equipment to the gym.

The baseball team helped staff the Rick Charette Concert, which was held at Pearson's Café on Sunday, November 20th. Players assisted with setup and breakdown for the event, which generated a large number of gifts in the form of unopened toys for underprivileged children in the area.

The Monks also participated in the "Let's Bring 'Em Home" fundraiser within the team during the fall semester. The foundation brings home military service men & women for the holidays and helps defray the cost of travel for our soldiers. The SJC baseball team raised over $500 for the cause.
