Monks Topple Eagles, 10-2

BANGOR, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (7-5) toppled Husson University (2-7), 10-2, in a non-conference baseball game on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Monks took control right away with three runs off four hits in the top of the first, when junior right fielder Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.) plated junior shortstop Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) with a single and later scored, along with junior left fielder Ben Gravel (Rochester, N.H.), on a two-out base hit off the bat of junior first baseman Noah McDaniel (Eliot, Maine).

In the top of the second, St. Joe's put the game out of reach by scoring four runs off four hits. Senior center fielder Chris Gerossie (Chester, N.H.) produced an RBI single and later scored on a Jacob White (Salem, N.H.) sac fly and DiPrizio plated a pair with a single to center to lift the Monks to a 7-0 cushion.

Leading 7-1 in the top of the sixth, Saint Joseph's added to the lead with two runs off three hits, as Gerossie tripled home Murphy and eventually scored on a Gravel base hit.

The Monks capped their s coring in the eighth inning, when freshman Dylan Fournier (South Windsor, Conn.) doubled and raced home on a Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) single up the middle.

ON THE MOUND:

  • Senior starter Aaron Hall (Haverhill, Mass.) earned his first win of the season after allowing a run off four hits and two walks with a pair of K's in five frames
  • Sophomore Matt Demma (Worcester, Mass.) fanned a pair in one inning of relief
  • Freshman Kristian Harris (Salem, N.H.) allowed a run off a hit and two walks with one K in one inning
  • Sophomore Jonathon Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.) and freshman Jonathan Marchia (Chicopee, Mass.) allowed a hit apiece while working the eighth and ninth innings, respectively
  • Husson employed nine different pitchers in the loss with starter Jesse Colford taking the losing decision after allowing three runs off four hits in the first inning

OFF THE BAT:

  • Murphy was 3-4 with three runs and a double
  • DiPrizio went 2-4 with a run and three RBI
  • Gravel added two hits, a run, and an RBI in four at bats
  • Gerossie was 2-4 with a pair of runs, a triple, and two RBI
  • Connor Maguire and Luke Covey both had two hits for Husson

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:

With the victory, Saint Joseph's is now 64-36 all-time versus Husson University and has now defeated the Eagles in five-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2016 season.

Saint Joseph's is back in action tomorrow with a single nine-inning game at Nichols College. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
