STANDISH, Maine – The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly accolades have been announced and a pair of Saint Joseph's College baseball players have been honored.
Junior outfielder Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) has been named as the GNAC Corvias Player of the Week and senior Travis Godbout (Portland, Maine) has garnered GNAC Corvias Pitcher of the Week honors.
Gagne earns the first conference weekly honor of his career after hitting .563 (9-16) with two doubles, 11 runs, five RBI, four walks, and eight stolen bases in as many attempts in a 6-0 week for the Monks. He posted a .650 OBP with a .688 slugging percentage and, in a win over Husson University, went 4-4 with three runs, a double, an RBI, and three stolen bases.
Godbout collects his first GNAC award of the season after tossing six innings while allowing one run off two hits with seven strikeouts in a pair of appearances. The senior righthander earned the win in relief against Colby College on Tuesday after fanning four batters in 1.1 innings and yielded one run over 4.2 innings versus Husson on Thursday.
Through 21 games for the 16-5 Monks, Gagne is hitting .438 (21-48) with 16 runs, five doubles, a triple, 10 RBI, and 13 stolen bases. He currently leads the conference in batting average, ranks second in stolen bases, and third in OBP.
In five appearances, including two starts, for the Monks this spring, Godbout is 3-0 with a 4.20 ERA and nine strikeouts over 15 innings. He has been named as the GNAC Pitcher of the Week three times during his career.
Saint Joseph's will play at University of Southern Maine on Thursday at 3:30 PM.
