WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Saint Joseph's College (6-0) blanked Wartburg College (1-3), 12-0, in RussMatt Central Florida Invitational baseball action on Friday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Monks put the game away early by scoring six runs off six hits and a Wartburg error in the bottom of the first inning. Senior catcher Greg Emanuelson (Hudson, N.H.) knocked in a pair with a bases-loaded single while junior Drew Healey (Rochester, N.H.), senior Anthony DiPrizio (Rochester, N.H.), and senior Joey Murphy (Derry, N.H.) chipped in with run-scoring singles during the six-run first.
Senior right fielder Jared Gagne (Dover, N.H.) led off the second frame with a bunt single and later scored on an infield error and Emanuelson plated a pair with a double in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Monks' lead to 9-0.
St. Joe's closed out the game scoring with three runs off four hits in the fifth, when Hunter Richardson (Monmouth, Maine) and Emanuelson notched RBI singles and Healey drove in another run with a fielder's choice.
ON THE MOUND:
Junior Zach Ham (Saco, Maine), making his first collegiate start, allowed three hits with a strikeout and no walks while tossing just 49 pitches over five scoreless innings. Freshman Matt Poff (Pelham, N.H.) yielded three hits and fanned one batter in two innings of scoreless relief.
For Wartburg, sophomore Dylan Gotto (Peosta, Iowa) took the loss after allowing nine runs (seven earned) off nine hits and four walks with five K's in four innings.
OFF THE BAT:
- Emanuelson was 3-4 with a run, a double, two stolen bases, and five RBI
- Gagne went 4-4 with four runs and a stolen base
- Richardson was 1-2 with three runs, two walks, and an RBI
- Healey added one hit, a run, and two RBI in four at-bats
- For Wartburg, sophomore JoJo McNair (Joliet, Ill.) and freshman Jarod Harris (Manchester, Iowa) posted two hits apiece
