WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Saint Joseph's College (3-7) capped the 2020 spring break trip with a 7-3 victory over Cornell College (2-4) in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational Tournament on Sunday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Trailing 3-2, the Monks tied the game with two out in the top of the fifth when senior first baseman Drew Healey (Rochester, N.H.) doubled home junior shortstop Justin Juliano (Lynnfield, Mass.) and took the lead in the top of the seventh when junior center fielder Hunter Richardson (Monmouth, Maine) knocked in Juliano and later scored on a Healey single to right field.
Saint Joseph's closed out the game with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings, as junior right fielder Dylan Fournier (South Windsor, Conn.) crossed the plate on a Jacob McGill (Derry, N.H.) single in the former and Healey singled and scored on an error.
ON THE MOUND:
For the Monks, sophomore Devan Harrison (Bourne, Mass.) picked up the win after tossing three scoreless innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts and junior closer Jonathan Marchia (Chicopee, Mass.) earned his second save of the season after fanning five batters in 2.2 innings of work. Freshman starter Sam Jalbert (Mascouche, Que.) did not factor into the decision after allowing three runs (two earned) off five hits and four walks with four K's in 3.1 innings.
For Cornell, Hunter Davis took the loss after yielding three runs off five hits and a walk with three punch-outs in two innings.
OFF THE BAT:
- Healey was 3-4 with a run, a double, and two RBI
- Richardson went 2-4 with two runs, a double, two RBI and a stolen base
- Fournier added two hits and a run in four at-bats
- Juliano was 2-5 with two runs and a pair of stolen bases
- For Cornell, Caleb Sass and James Kent notched two hits apiece
