Title: | Assistant Coach |
Year: | 2nd Season |
At the top of Coach Sanborn's recruiting wish list for 2009 was
a top notch pitching coach, and the St. Joe's skipper landed his
top choice - Rod Choroszy. Rod's duties will include overseeing the
pitching staff, assisting with practice and game planning, and
recruiting.
Choroszy joins the SJC baseball staff after coaching at Southern
Maine Community College as an assistant under Head Coach Phil
Desjardins for the past three seasons. While there, Choroszy helped
guide the Seawolves to a pair of Yankee Small College Conference
Championships.
Choroszy served as the head baseball coach for South Portland High
School for 16 years in the 1980's and ‘90's and steered the
Red Riots to the Western Maine playoffs in 12 seasons, including
three trips to the finals and one Western Maine Championship.
As a pitcher at the University of Maine under the tutelage of the
late Jack Butterfield, Choroszy compiled records for the most
appearances and saves in a single season.
Choroszy, a University of Maine graduate with a degree in Health
and Physical Education, is currently a health and physical
education teacher at South Portland High School and resides in Old
Orchard Beach, Maine.
