Monks Post Fifth-Consecutive Shutout, Top Colby-Sawyer 2-0

NEW LONDON, NH – Saint Joseph's College (13-2, 7-2 NAC) blanked Colby-Sawyer College (6-11, 1-8 NAC), 2-0, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey contest on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors got on the board in the 23rd minute on a goal by sophomore Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H.). The goal was Williams' first of the season. Less than 10 minutes later, the Monks increased their lead to two goals. Sophomore Amanda Celata (Dedham, Mass.) found freshman teammate Elizabeth O'Neal (Topsham, Maine), who netted her second marker of the year.

The second half went scoreless as the Monks possessed the ball throughout the frame.

The Chargers were held to one shot, which was saved by Monks freshman keeper Emma Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.). Colby-Sawyer goalie Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) made nine saves in the loss.

The Monks had a 15-1 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in penalty corners. With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 3-0 in the history of the series with Colby-Sawyer College. All three of the SJC victories have been by way of the shutout.

Saint Joseph's has now posted five-consecutive goose-egg efforts, which counts as a new program record in the category. Previously, the consecutive-shutouts record was three games, a string that occurred during the 2012 campaign. The Monks have not allowed a goal in over 360 minutes of play with the last marker potted by an opponent coming in the 60th minute of a 2-1 loss at the hands of Lasell College on October 9th.

In the team's 2013 regular-season finale, Saint Joseph's will host Plymouth State College in a non-conference contest starting at 3:30 PM on Tuesday.
