Monks Slip Past AMCATS, 2-1

PAXTON, Mass.—Freshman Bailey Cutler (Lisbon Falls, Maine) netted the game-winning goal in the 55th minute to lead the Saint Joseph's College Monks to a 2-1 win against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Saturday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at AMCAT Field.

The win marks the sixth-straight for the Monks, who improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in GNAC play, while the loss drops the AMCATS to 6-7 overall and 1-3 in league action.

Cutler redirected a shot by Theresa Hendrix (Scarborough, Maine) from the top of the circle. The score broke open nearly 40 minutes of scoreless action for both teams.

The Monks first goal game in the 14th minute as Hayley Winslow (Falmouth, Maine) tipped in a rebound off a blocked shot by teammate Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine).

The AMCATS would waste no time to score the equalizer, needing just 2:13 for Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) to net her league-leading 13th goal of the season.

After an even five shots for each team in the first half, the Monks outshot the AMCATS 9-4 in the second half to hold an overall 14-9 shots advantage. AMCATS goalkeeper Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) totaled seven saves, while Emma Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.) recorded five saves for the Monks.

In the 53rd minute, the Monks had another solid opportunity to score as Hendrix shot the ball past Breen, but sophomore Emily Strandring (Worcester, Mass.) made a big defensive save for the AMCATS.

Anna Maria returns to action on Wednesday as it hosts New England College in non-conference action at 4:30 p.m. The Monks will host Castleton tomorrow in non-conference action at 1:00 p.m.
