Comeback Bid Falls Short in 3-2 Loss at Husson

BANGOR, Maine – Husson University (1-3) edged Saint Joseph's College (0-1), 3-2, in non-conference field hockey action on Monday afternoon. Junior Kelsey Dumond (Lewiston, Maine) scored a goal with 14 shots in the losing effort.

The host-Eagles netted all three of their goals in the first half, as Lauren Russell, Kerianne Downing and Britt Mellor found the back of the cage to make it a 3-0 game heading into intermission.

The Monks came out firing in the second stanza and held a 15-4 shots advantage in the closing 35 minutes. St. Joe's finally solved Husson keeper Kaitlin Dolloff in the 50th minute when freshman Michalia Parent (Westborough, Mass.) scored off a Kayla Kelly (York, Maine) feed. Dumond netted her first goal of the season two minutes later, off a Meghan Williams (Greenland, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) pass, cutting the Husson advantage to 3-2.

St. Joe's continued to pepper the Eagles' cage, including a four-shot flurry in a matter of 40 seconds – but failed to convert.

Dolloff made 22 saves for the Eagles while SJC junior keeper Emma Astbury (Bridgewater, Vt.) made a pair of saves in the losing effort.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Wednesday with the team's 2015 home opener against New England College, a contest that starts at 3:00 PM.
