Winslow Nets Late Goal, Monks Edge Terriers, 1-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – Junior Hayley Winslow (Falmouth, Maine) scored in the 67th minute to lift Saint Joseph's College (5-5, 2-1 GNAC) past Thomas College (3-8, 1-1 NAC), 1-0, in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday evening.

THE LEAD

Winslow potted the winning goal off a penalty corner play, as a shot by freshman Maddy Beaulieu (West Gardiner, Maine) was denied by a Caitlyn Poulin (Knox, Maine) defensive save and the rebound was slammed home by the junior captain, who served as the injector on the corner bid.

THE KEEPERS

Saint Joseph's sophomore Megan Baker (Gorham, Maine) made two saves to record her first shutout of the season while her counterpart, Thomas senior Abbie Charrier (Waldo, Maine), stopped three shots in the losing effort.

TEAM STATS

Saint Joseph's held a 7-4 lead in shots – including a 4-0 advantage in the second half – while Thomas posted a 9-5 cushion in penalty corner attempts.

HISTORICALLY SPEAKING

With the victory, Saint Joseph's improve to 19-9 in the history of the series with Thomas College, a team the Monks have now defeated in 11 consecutive meetings dating back to the 2007 campaign. The Monks have shut out the Terriers in five-straight meetings.

Both teams return to play this Saturday, when Saint Joseph's hosts conference-rival Simmons College - in a rematch of the 2015 GNAC Championship game – at 11:00 AM and Thomas travels to Colby-Sawyer College for a 12:00 PM contest.
