Pomerleau Named All-American, Rutledge Listed on All-Rookie Team

STANDISH, Maine – A pair of Saint Joseph's College field hockey standouts have earned Synapse Sports postseason accolades. Junior forward Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine) has garnered Third Team All-America honors and freshman forward Emma Rutledge (Alfred, Maine) is listed on the All-Rookie Team.

Pomerleau becomes the second player in the 24-year history of the SJC field hockey program to claim All-America honors after scoring 20 goals with six assists for 46 total points during her junior season. The two-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Offensive Player of the Year honoree broke the Monks' career goals record with her 58th strike in the GNAC Championship victory over Lasell College on November 4th and, with 21 assists to her credit, has tallied 137 points – the second-highest total in team history – in just 63 career games.

Former Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Meaghan Johnson '12, who collected National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Third Team All-America honors during her senior season, was the first SJC player to earn national acclaim.

Rutledge, the 2018 GNAC Rookie of the Year, is listed on the national All-Rookie Team after scoring 18 goals with 15 assists for 51 total points during her first collegiate campaign. She tied the Monks' single-season assists record this fall and recorded the second-highest single-season point total in team history as a freshman.

Rutledge is the second SJC player to earn Synapse Sports All-Rookie Team honors. Pomerleau, who earned the honor in 2016, was the first.

Led by 14th-year Head Coach Rupert Lewis, Saint Joseph's posted perhaps the finest season in program history this fall. With a 19-2 overall record and a 7-0 mark in GNAC play, the Monks claimed their third-consecutive GNAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in as many years. Playing at Endicott College in the first round, the Monks suffered a 3-1 season-ending loss.

The 2018 team set new SJC single-season records for wins, goals (95), assists (76), points (266), shots (487), shutouts (13), and goals-against average (0.66) and finished the year as the NCAA DIII leader in assists per game (3.57), penalty corners per game (14.10), points per game (12.62), and scoring margin (3.81). St Joe's also ranked third in the country in goals per game (4.52) and scoring average (4.47), fourth in winning percentage (.905), eighth in save percentage (.841), and ninth in goals-against average (0.66).
