Simpson Named Synapse Sports NCAA DIII Defensive Player of the Week

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College field hockey junior goalkeeper Alexandria Simpson (Pascoag, R.I.) has been chosen as the Synapse Sports NCAA DIII Defensive Player of the Week.

Simpson earns the national accolade after backstopping the Monks to a pair of wins over the opening weekend, posting 15 saves in two games while allowing only two goals. The Monks beat Skidmore and Wellesley by identical 2-1 scores; Simpson had 11 saves in the win over Skidmore before notching four saves in the victory over Wellesley.

Simpson, in her first season as a starter, was also selected as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week for her play last weekend.

Saint Joseph's will play at Husson University tonight at 7:00 PM.
