Golf Finishes Ninth at Husson Invitational

BANGOR, ME – The Saint Joseph's College golf team placed ninth with a 366 team card in the Husson University Invitational on Saturday. The event, originally scheduled to be a two-day tourney, was cut short due to inclement weather on Sunday.

Freshman Michael Caron (Gorham, Maine) led the Monks with an 83 (44-39) card and finished in a tie for seventh overall. Senior Kevin Richardson (Coventry, Conn.) shot a 90 (46-44), senior Colin Finn (North Easton, Mass.) posted a 94 (46-48), sophomore Ryan Berard (Millville, Mass.) carded a 99 (52-47) and freshman Andrew Berg (Fryeburg, Maine) shot a 109 (55-54) on the day.

Husson ran away with team honors with a 306 group card, 28 strokes better than the 334 posted by runner-up Endicott College. Southern Maine placed third (339), Maine Maritime Academy was fourth (345) and University of Maine-Farmington rounded out the top five with a 345 score.

The host-Eagles slotted the top three finishers in the event, as Bill Hutchins paced the field with a 73 (36-37), Lance Bernier was the runner-up with a 76 (40-36) and Greg Martin placed third with a 78 (40-38) card.

Saint Joseph's will host the 11th Annual John Queenan Memorial Tournament at Point Sebago Golf Resort on Tuesday. The yearly tournament is named in memory of John Queenan, a 2003 graduate of Bow High School who died tragically in an automobile accident just prior to the beginning of his freshman year at Saint Joseph's.
